Project Spotlight: Mechanics Shop in Baton Rouge, LA

August 7, 2026

This particular Mechanics Shop in Baton Rouge was expanding its operations by combining the office and shop into one building, bringing everything under one roof for a more efficient workflow.

Before installing a new HVAC system, the existing metal building needed insulation to improve comfort, energy efficiency, and condensation control.

Thermo-Guard Solution

Our team Installed 1.5" of closed-cell spray foam insulation on the walls of the 30' × 50' × 14' metal building and along the roofline to the 16' peak, creating a continuous insulated building envelope for enhanced thermal performance, air sealing, and moisture control.

Carefully protected the Atlas vehicle lift, shop floors, tools, and surrounding equipment throughout the installation to keep the workspace clean and undamaged while work was completed.

Results

  • Created a tighter, more energy-efficient building envelope, reducing heat transfer and helping the new HVAC system operate more efficiently.
  • Improved year-round comfort for technicians working inside the shop.
  • Helped protect the building against moisture intrusion and condensation common in metal structures.

Technical Note

Closed-cell spray foam provides approximately R-7 per inch while serving as both an air barrier and a moisture barrier. It is an excellent insulation solution for metal buildings where controlling heat gain and condensation is critical—especially in Louisiana's hot, humid climate.

Quick Takeaway

Insulating a metal building before installing HVAC allows the system to perform more efficiently from day one while improving comfort, reducing energy costs, and helping protect the structure from moisture-related issues.
